Shrek, a cartoon character was being painted in the serving glasses of MC Donald. The Shrek painted drinking glasses were containing cadmium, a toxic metal. Shrek painted drinking glasses were also being sold at McDonald outlet worldwide. The fast food company was forced to recall some 12 million collectibles of Shrek serving glasses. The toxic metal content was more than imported jeweler of children said the report.
The recall of these glasses was made on early Friday due to expanding contamination due to toxic metal. The recall was done by the US consumer product safety commission and also warned the consumers. The US consumer product safety commission asked the consumers to stop using the glasses for their safety. The refunds regarding the refund will be available in the website of MC Donald within a week or so.
The cost of a glass was $2 and the glass was 16 ounce which was being sold at the McDonald outlet. The sale of Shrek glass was to done to promote the forth coming movie which is released recently. The Shrek glass was 12mm thick and the name of the movie was “Shrek Forever After”. The glasses were available in four different designs donkey, puss in boots, Princess Fiona and Shrek. Adverse health effects are noticed when there is a good exposure of cadmium, especially in children. Cadmium can cause bone softening, severe kidney problems especially when it is a carcinogen element.
