The wild animal trade has lead to the export of 35 million animals legally from past decade. The hundreds of millions of animals are exported illegally for wild animal trade. The gaping of biodiversity gaping holes is named as empty forest syndrome by experts. The whole species majority is mainly from Asian animals were no big animals are left out. The demand for exotic pets in Europe, Japan and China are draining the wildlife.

The Chinese medicine uses many animals as medicines which has lead to the verge of extinction of sea horses. Chinese medicines use 16 million sea horses in form of dried specimens for medicines. South East Asia wild life is exported by China for their medicines mainly from countries like Hong Kong, Thailand, and Taiwan. Each year millions of Tikay Geckos lizards are exported but the Indonesian has set the limit for export as 45,000.Pangolins are famous for their medicine and meat but the scaly anteater trade is now not allowed. The monitoring network is made for wild life trade especially for the Ploughshare Tortoise in Indonesia.

The experts say the export of animals for the reason of pet shops, pharmacies and feed restau rants may end up in the extinction of the wild life. As many as 73,000 exotic fishes are exported from Malaysia and Indonesia to cities like Hong Kong. Birds as many as a million are sent mainly from China, Vietnam and Malaysia to EU and Japan. CITES now regulates the imports and exports of wildlife sales. The reports of CITES showed the records of 2007 that as many as 35 million animals are exported. Among the 35 million animals 30 million animals are taken directly from the wild.
