The monsoon is into its sixth week in India, and in most of the key states like Maharashtra and Punjab, the cumulative rainfall levels are far less than 80%. Things might have to dramatically improve in the balance weeks, which looks very bleak as of now. This can add to the food prices problem since these are the wheat and rice producing states and the government cannot afford to have these prices going up in coming months, close to the general elections.
