In the last four-five years, India has seen dramatic changes in the telecom space. The landline segment has seen decline, while the mobile segment has grown manifold. As of January 2008 India has over 240 million mobile subscribers. At the current pace of over 8 million subscriber additions per month, India is expected to surpass US to become the second largest wireless network country in the world by May 2008. All this has been enabled by excellent government initiatives and also adoption of latest technoligies, which has helped the user call rates to drop by over 70% in the last five years. India boasts of providing the lowest call rates per minute in the world. This is expected to go down in the coming months with more competition cropping up in the country.
